South Cambridgeshire District Council's refuse, recycling and street care service is running a little differently during the festive period. Bin collections will be as normal from week commencing December 23 until January 1 but disposal of food waste may not be available on site in Chatteris during the Christmas period. This is because the household food waste recycling centre in Castle End Road is closed for several weeks for maintenance. The council is reminding residents it will be organising bin collections as normal over the Christmas and New Year period, but is advising members of the public to check their collection date ahead of the celebrations.

Christmas food waste should be kept separate and can be placed in your brown bin, then follow the regular collection route for rubbish. Chatteris residents can check their bin collection days via the South Cambridgeshire website: Refuse Collection Chatteris or by calling 01733 590171 Chatteris residents are reminded to take note of their collection dates over the Christmas period and try not to leave any food out that may attract vermin. Cambridgeshire County Council is asking residents to check their green bin collection dates, as they have changed over Christmas and New Year.

Residents are reminded to put their bins out on the correct day and have empty ones for collection. Christmas day falls on a Tuesday this year so Chatteris residents will have their normal refuse, recycling and garden waste collections on Thursday 18 December from 6am 4pm. To make it easier to know which bin goes out when, Christmas and New Year prompts have been added to the bin calendar at Refuse Collection Chatteris. The Christmas and New Year period always sees an increase in the amount of food waste generated, with additional food purchases and party leftovers all adding to the weekly rubbish bag.
