We are pleased to announce that collection of garden waste will now resume and would like to thank residents for their patience while we worked with our contractors to resolve the issue. We are meeting with Suffolk Coastal District Council next week to discuss issues relating to processing waste once it has been collected, including mixing and contamination of loads by non binlabelled items, and to consider what further actions can be taken. Gardeners have now got their green fingers crossed for 2017 while they wait to see if their gardens'Christmas trees and hedge clippings will be collected in the New Year. From April, households in the old Lowestoft district will be able to have green waste collected once a fortnight, on a similar basis to standard black bin waste collections. From May, the green bin collection service will be extended to households in the Leiston and Southwold district.

We were forced to suspend collections owing to a number of factors, including adverse weather conditions and damage that had been caused to our fleet and delivery vehicles. Garden Waste Collection Lowestoft, East Suffolk’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “We greatly appreciate the support and understanding that residents have shown following the suspension of our garden waste collection service. The Garden Waste Collection Lowestoft Lowestoft team have worked incredibly hard to deliver the service in extremely difficult conditions. ‘I’m pleased to say that we have reached an agreement with our contractors to ensure collection of garden waste for the entirety of January, and should there be sufficient rainfall in the next few weeks it is possible that an amended service could be reinstated across East Suffolk before the end of March.
